Like trash, many of the sounds we hear in our world are disregarded and discarded in our minds. Re-sound is a one hour guided soundwalk during which participants undertake a series of simple exercises focusing on this ’throw-away’ energy that surrounds us.  Can we gain a greater awareness of this soundscape and how it may affect us? How might these forgotten sounds be ‘recycled’ to be used in music, poetry, sound compositions and performances?  A tour highlight will be experiencing the sounds created by our waste by entering and listening to the MarBorg Recycling center.  While not required, participants are invited bring recording devices and headphones.

Andrea Polli is an artist and scholar working at the intersection of art, science and technology whose practice includes media performance and installation, public interventions, curating and editorial, directing and writing. She currently is a Professor in Art and Ecology with a joint appointment between Fine Arts and Engineering, the Mesa Del Sol Endowed Chair of Digital Media, and the Director of the Social Media Workgroup at the Center for Advanced Research Computing at The University of New Mexico. She holds a doctorate in practice-led research from the University of Plymouth in the UK and a Master of Fine Arts in Time Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
