Featured as part of Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara’s exhibition Shift, Stretch, Expand: Everyday Transformations at MCASB Satellite @ Hotel Indigo, and part of this summer’s Under the Sun celebration, is a site-specific dance work by Santa Barbara-based artist, Weslie Ching. The piece unfolds in various areas of the hotel—a setting, similar to that of a train station, airport, office building, and museum, in which people who have no relationship to each other, other than their temporary location, are together. Ching’s performance explores the sense of anonymity, rootlessness, restlessness, time dilation or contraction, and identity shifting an individual can experience in transitional environments.

Temporary/Contemporary is performed three times throughout 2016: February 21 at 11am; June 26 at 2pm; and October 7 at 6pm.

This event marks MCASB’s ongoing commitment to performance via our On Edge Performance Art Series and is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.

MCASB Satellite @Hotel Indigo SB

From 2012 – 2018, Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara (MCASB) programmed year-long exhibitions and events at a satellite location at Hotel Indigo Santa Barbara, a boutique art hotel that combines historic Santa Barbara architecture and a sleek modern style. Functioning as an extension of the Museum, the MCASB satellite site offered world-class exhibitions and public programs to hotel guests and a larger segment of the community—free of charge.
