In Conversation with Bean Gilsdorf and Patricia Maloney

Are you an aspiring writer for the arts? We invite you to join local, national, and international arts writers in conversation and discuss questions like: How do you write a compelling critical arts review? What are the key factors to succeed as an arts writer? What are your resources? Everything from artist statements to exhibition reviews will be discussed.

Patricia Maloney, founder of the online art publication Art Practical, and artist Bean Gilsdorf will be joined by Charles Donelan, arts editor for the Independent, and Mitchell Kriegman, film maker, performer, and writer, who will add a local perspective to the exchange.

Space is limited so RSVP here to reserve your spot.

Bean Gilsdorf is an artist, writer, and editor. For the international online art journal Daily Serving, Bean Gilsdorf serves as the Editor in Chief, as well as the author of the bi-monthly arts-advice column “Help Desk.” As an artist, her work combines various methods to produce hybrid objects, performances, texts, and installations. Her projects have explored and destabilized historical narratives using the central technique of appropriation a sampling of which is currently on display in MCASB’s Charles Bloom Gallery.

Patricia Maloney is the executive director of Southern Exposure. She is the publisher emeritus of Daily Serving | Art Practical; she founded Art Practical in 2009 and became the publisher of the international online art journal Daily Serving in 2013.
